Nuvve Japan Finalizes $3.35 Million Battery Storage Deal in Gifu
Nuvve Japan has finalized its first sale agreement for a large-scale battery storage project in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, totaling $3.35 million (approximately 520 million yen), the company announced Monday.
The 2-megawatt, 8-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system (BESS) is designed to provide grid stabilization services and participate in Japan’s growing capacity and balancing markets. The project represents a significant milestone for Nuvve as it expands its footprint in the Japanese energy sector beyond its core vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology.
The facility will utilize Nuvve’s proprietary GIVe™ software platform, which allows the system to respond to grid frequency changes and manage energy distribution in real-time. By storing excess energy and releasing it during peak demand, the project aims to support the integration of renewable energy sources in the region.
The agreement comes as Japan accelerates its push toward carbon neutrality by 2050, a goal that requires a substantial increase in energy storage capacity to manage intermittent solar and wind power.
Nuvve Japan, a joint venture between San Diego-based Nuvve Holding Corp. and several Japanese partners, expects the Mino project to serve as a blueprint for future large-scale storage deployments across the country.
